SICILY. Leontini. Circa 430-425 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 17.00 g, 9 h). Laureate head of Apollo to left. Rev. LE-ON-TI-NON Head of a lion with open jaws to left; above, to left and below, three barley grains; to right, laurel leaf. BMC 39 (same dies). Boehringer 53 (same obverse die). HGC 2, 670 (same obverse die). Maltese Period III, 121c (D30/R93). Nicely toned. Some rubbing and with traces of overstriking on the obverse, otherwise, good fine.

From the collection of the Hamburg-based Psychologist and Educational Scientist, Prof. Dr. Paul Probst, acquired in a central European sale in circa 1975-1980 (with collector's ticket with an image and auction lot number 4).
